Karrueche plays 18-year-old Sophie in the film, said that she believes it was important to have women as the driving force behind it.
She added that this was because the cast and writer Megan Meghan Rienks, who also appeared in the interview, felt it was important to relay the story from a female perspective.
Karrueche said: 'If you have a male director then you're seeing things through a male's vision then that is an inaccurate representation. So we felt we had to have a female base pushing that force.'
Sat beside Karrueche during the interview was her co-star Megan, who wrote the story for the film in 2015.
Megan revealed that 60% of the crew for the film were women, and although she said she 'wanted 100%' she was told she wasn't allowed.
She said that they struggled to find a female editor for the film after releasing they wanted the movie to come from the vision of a woman who could relate to the story.
