27 Years On The 27th

On June 27th my husband & I celebrated 27 years of marriage.
Sounds like a perfect reason for a little getaway.

So, we headed west . . . through the Smoky Mountains and into Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

To our first destination . . . The Buckhorn Inn.
This was our first time staying here. We enjoy visiting bed & breakfast inns.

This inn has rooms in the main building (pictured above) or you can stay in one of the cottages. We stayed in this charming cottage which was built in 1938. The little screened in porch was a very peaceful place to read or listen to the birdsong.

Oh look, here is a little window off of the porch.
Let's take a peek.
Can't see too much, but it looks interesting in there.
Want to come in?

Isn't it charming?
I love the knotty pine paneling and the corner bookcase.
This little living room had a fireplace too.
Shall we go take a look at the bedroom?

Pictures can't do justice to how cozy this bedroom was.
It had low plaster ceilings and if you look closely you can see the scalloped trim right under the ceiling. That was in every room and it was so cute. See the little built in desk and chest of drawers?
Delicious breakfasts were included with our stay and you could also order dinner if you wanted to.

We chose to have dinner here for our anniversary night. It was a 4 course dinner that was absolutely delicious. I forgot to take a picture, but we had white cheddar/chive soup, salad, salmon over wilted spinach and for dessert . . . a sour cherry/custard tart that was out of this world. Oh & see the glasses on the table? That is the inn's signature spiced iced tea. Oh my gosh was it good. In fact so good that I bought their cookbook just so I could come home and make it.

This was the view outside our window as we ate dinner.
Breathtaking!!

We spent 2 nights at this beautiful place and then headed to Sevierville to stay one night at another B & B called the Blue Mountain Mist Country Inn.

We stayed in a cottage here too. It was called the Morning Glory Cottage. It was also very cute and very private.

A peek at the inside.
The innkeepers leave a dessert out each evening. The night we were there it was blueberry cobbler. Yummy!! In the morning we met in the dining room of their lovely Victorian home and ate fresh fruit, sour cream scrambled eggs with fresh parsley on top, potato/ham & cheese casserole, sausage and bran muffins. Beautiful flowers freshly cut from their gardens graced the table.
Southern hospitality at it's finest.

We tried to steer clear of the touristy areas.
Instead we did a little shopping in the arts & crafts area, took a long drive up into the Smokies, took walks and just enjoyed being together.

What a beautiful part of our country this is.
We returned feeling relaxed and ready to face the real world again.

It's amazing what even a few days away from it all can do for a person.
