Marvel's Hayley Atwell will be a destructive force of nature in Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible 7 and 8
Actor Tom Cruise has not one but two Mission Impossible movies in the pipeline. While the coronavirus pandemic has put a halt on the production, the actor is adamant that he will shoot the majority portions in Venice. Meanwhile, some actors from the past will return in the upcoming films and it will also introduce a new character played by Marvel's Hayley Atwell.
Marvel introduce a new character
Known for her role as Peggy Carter in Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is will be seen as the destructive force of nature in Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible 7 and 8, according to director Christopher McQuarrie. Atwell and McQuarrie recently appeared on the Mission: Impossible podcast Light the Fuse where they hinted at her character. "In this [film], we've found something really, really great for the core team. What I can tell you is that they then encounter this other destructive force of nature in the form of Hayley," McQuarrie said.
"There’s ambiguity…the interesting thing we’re exploring is her resistance to a situation she finds herself in. How she starts off, where she becomes. The journey of what she comes into and what is asked of her and potentially where she ends up," Hayley revealed.
In the leaked pictures, the actress was seen in a high-speed car chase sequence which confirmed she was a part of the franchise.
"For Hayley to exist in a franchise where other women had come and made statements, we said ‘well it can’t be like that.’ We don’t want Hayley to be a repeat of any character that’s come before. What’s left? What’s unique and what’s new? We wrote a scene about what we imagined the spark of that character to be, and that’s what Hayley came in and read.
What we discovered there is this energy that Hayley had, specifically energy with Tom. It’s not a vibe, it’s literally a vibration. You felt it and you were like, ‘I don’t know what to make of this person," McQuarrie added.
Christopher McQuarrie praised her work ethic by saying, “It is truly something to see….the work that you’ve done, the dedication you’ve shown, the focus, and quite frankly, your frightening talent with a knife, are all stuff that I’m very, very, very excited for people to see. It’s a very different side of Hayley.”
Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 will star Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Vanessa Kirby. Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Nicholas Hoult, Henry Czerny will be seen in key roles.
Christopher McQuarrie will helm the next two installments of Mission Impossible. He previously directed 2015’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and 2018’s Mission Impossible: Fallout.
