New Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series Spied With Even Larger Rear Wing

Just a couple of days after a Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series was snapped testing, yet another prototype has been spied being put through its paces. However, this particular prototype features even more extreme aerodynamics.

Immediately distinguishing this prototype from all other hardcore GT Rs we’ve seen in recent months is a towering rear wing somewhat similar in design to the one on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Not only does it sit higher than any other found on lesser AMG GT models, it also sports pronounced endplates and actually supports a second small wing between the towering uprights to increase downforce.

Elsewhere, the matte green prototype in question features a pronounced front splitter and large front canards. There are also 911 GT3 RS-esque louvers on the front wheel arches, a hood with huge air extractors and fins on the front wheel arches. Completing the modifications are four distinctive tailpipes similar in design to those of the original Ferrari California and Lexus IS F.

Mercedes is remaining tight-lipped about the new AMG GT models it has in the works but, clearly, it is cooking up some rather special for the variant expected to wear the ‘Black Series’ nameplate. The sports car’s range received its first hardcore, track-focused model in the form of the AMG GT R three years ago, while last year, the even more extreme Pro was launched. The Black Series will sit above both.

It remains to be seen what other modifications have been made to the car other than the new aero pack. However, we expect to see significant alterations to the suspension and brakes. Mercedes-AMG will, in all likelihood, also work on the car’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 to help extract more than the 577 HP and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) it currently produces in the GT R and GT R Pro . We wouldn’t be surprised to see the car pump out in excess of 650 HP, with some reports claiming that it could and even surpass the 700 HP mark.
